Tobias Jakobs posted a link to Ariya's blog talking about libwpg progress on the Inkscape mailing list. I read it, got curious, and looked at the source code in their CVS repository. It turns out they have a simple little utility to convert WPG files into SVG. I stole it and converted it into an Inkscape extension.

There are some limitations, and the library is still young. In fact, they still don't have a release. But, it is worth looking into and seeing if any of those WPG files you have from back in "the day" will no work easily with Inkscape.
