I think that this is the dominate problem with US foriegn policy. We believe that we are better and should be treated differently. This problem is exemplified in our reaction to the ICC. We think that everyone else's troops should be eligible for war crimes, but not ours. How can anyone say this to themselves without laughing? I love our troops, I think the job they do is very important, but I think that they need to be able to be tried for the crimes they commit on the battlefield. Hopefully, (and I believe that this is true for the majority of them) there will be not transgressions, but the ICC is as good as any body to deal with them at that point. While I can understand that many trials might be politically modivateds - that is the problem with any legal system such as the US's - it is not a bad thing.
