Huh, handing over power to the new government in Iraq early and decisions by the supreme court, in the same day. Wonder how that happened? I guess things like that just happen sometimes, yeah, politics are funny.

Well, I'm overall happy with the decision that was passed down by the supreme court. My understanding of it (and it is complex enough that I have to put it that way) is that they basically said that it is okay to capture enemy combatants, but they must have some due process. They must be able to defend themselves against that title, and thus they must have access to a lawyer. Now, they didn't say whether this should be a military tribunal, or a public court, and they didn't limit the executive's power to capture enemy combatants in a war zone.

They question that they avoided (which I personally think is more important) is whether they can capture enemy combatants on US soil. I think that this is obviously a no, but that is just my opinion.

Anyway, I'm happy with the supreme court today. Though I find the little media hoop-la from the Whitehouse interesting.
