Hmm, I found this op-ed piece by Friedman on China very interesting. He is talking about the economic importance of China to the global economy. This is an important issue for the future as China has become a more significant portion of the global economy. One thing that I really enjoyed is this list:

One can only say three things: 1. They've done a pretty good job so far. 2. The job gets harder every day. 3. No one will be immune to the fallout.

But, one thing that I'm still worried about, is the human rights issues. We still haven't delt with the human rights issues in China, and infact we've pretty much started to ignore them. It used to be a popular issues for rock stars, but now it has pretty much falled to the pop culture way side. These issues still remain.

The environmental issues are also still of concern. The widely reported issues on computer recycling in China are still an issue, but still things that we don't have resolution to.

All in all, China is important. One billion people can't be wrong. But we need to help them grow in a socially and environmental manner, but it seems that we're more concerned with profits generated by disposable workers.
